A security operation carried out in Shiare, located in the Oti Region, on Wednesday morning led to the arrest of fifty individuals suspected of being involved in the recent resurgence of conflict in Nkwanta.

Authorities have indicated that the suspects will undergo a screening process before facing legal proceedings.

To assess the situation firsthand, National Security Coordinator DCOP Osman Abdul Razak visited Nkwanta, where he engaged with traditional leaders from the rival factions in an effort to restore peace.

Providing an update on the ongoing tensions, Oti Regional Police Commander DCOP Alex Acquah reported that the renewed clashes have resulted in six fatalities, left ten people injured, and caused the destruction of twelve homes and a shop.

In light of these developments, DCOP Osman Abdul Razak expressed concerns over the persistent disputes related to chieftaincy and land ownership across the country. He emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between security agencies to tackle such conflicts effectively.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Army Staff Maj Gen Bismarck Kwasi Onwona praised the existing cooperation among security forces, highlighting that their unified efforts are essential for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
