Abducted Agormanya girl rescued by police, suspect put before court
The suspect, Regina Mamle Tawiah, 36, was arrested on Monday, 20 April 2026, after police launched an intelligence-led operation following a complaint from the child’s father.
A nine-year-old girl who was reported missing from Agormanya Zongo has been rescued by police, who say she was found at Kotoka International Airport as a suspect allegedly tried to take her out of the country.
The suspect, Regina Mamle Tawiah, 36, was arrested on Monday, 20 April 2026, after police launched an intelligence-led operation following a complaint from the child’s father.
According to the Eastern Regional Police Command, the father had reported a day earlier that his daughter had left home and failed to return.
Investigators say officers from the Odumase-Krobo District Command, working together with personnel at the airport, tracked the case and intercepted the suspect before the child could be taken to Kenya.
The girl has since been reunited with her father.
The suspect was put before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, 21 April, where she pleaded not guilty. She has been remanded into police custody and is expected back in court on 5 May 2026 for case management proceedings.
Police are urging the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity promptly.
