Two New Patriotic Party officials have been granted bail by the Criminal Investigations Department after being picked up in separate cases.

They are the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, and the Sunyani East Communication Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, also known as Baba Amando.

Police are said to be investigating Abronye DC over alleged threats made against a judge presiding over a case at the Adenta Circuit Court. Baba Amando, on the other hand, was arrested over allegations of false publication.

Their release on bail was followed by political criticism from senior NPP figures.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, 13 April, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin called on the police to show restraint and tolerance in carrying out their duties.

The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, went further, accusing the government of using the arrests to shift public attention away from what he described as poor performance in office.

He argued that the administration was under growing public pressure over promises it had not delivered on, including matters relating to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, unemployment, port-related business costs and the implementation of its ORAL agenda.
