The Central North Regional Police Command has secured a 30-year prison sentence for Frank Owusu, popularly known as “Lifer”, following his conviction for armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 3, 2025, the police said Owusu was arrested in connection with a violent robbery that occurred at Assin Praso in the Central Region.
Investigations revealed that on March 29, 2025, Owusu attacked a victim at her residence in Assin Praso, robbing her of GH₵1,950 and other personal belongings at gunpoint. He fled the scene after abandoning a locally manufactured pistol, which was later recovered by the police.
Owusu was subsequently placed on the police wanted list and, after months of surveillance, was arrested on September 27, 2025, at his hideout in Assin Nyankomase. He was positively identified by the victim and charged accordingly.
On October 1, 2025, he appeared before the Nsuaem Kyekyewere Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo Yartey, where he pleaded guilty to both charges. The court sentenced him to two months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and 30 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for armed robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently.
According to the police, Owusu has been transferred to Ankaful Prisons to serve his custodial term.
ASP George Okrah, Head of Public Affairs for the Central North Regional Command, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to combating violent crime. “The Command remains resolute in pursuing armed robbery cases to their logical conclusion and ensuring that offenders face the full rigours of the law,” he said.
