The Bank of Ghana has raised the biennial licence renewal fee for all licensed foreign exchange bureaux from GH¢800 to GH¢2,000 — a 150% increase.
In a statement issued on October 24, the central bank said the adjustment forms part of broader regulatory reforms aimed at bolstering oversight and ensuring the long-term stability of the forex market.
The new fee takes immediate effect and applies to all existing operators.
The Bank reminded bureaux to comply with renewal timelines, requiring licences to be renewed at least two months before expiry, in accordance with Section 10 of the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723) and Paragraph 8 of Bank of Ghana Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2003/2 under the Revised Forex Bureau Regulations.
The regulator says the move reinforces its commitment to financial discipline and strengthened supervision of Ghana’s foreign exchange ecosystem.
