The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has released a strong statement distancing itself from the alleged misuse of its currency transport boxes, following reports that some individuals are using them for unauthorized and potentially illegal activities.

In a release titled “Use and Misuse of Bank of Ghana Currency Transport Boxes,” the central bank clarified that while these sturdy wooden boxes are built for the secure movement of currency and often reused after official operations, any insinuation that the Bank is involved in criminal acts linked to them is completely false and misleading.

The Bank acknowledged that members of the public sometimes acquire these boxes and use them for everyday purposes such as storage or transport due to their strength and durability. However, the BoG emphasized that any attempt to use them in a criminal context is unacceptable and must be addressed accordingly.

The central bank expressed concern over recent attempts by some individuals to link the institution to illicit activity through the use of these boxes, cautioning that such acts could erode public confidence in its integrity.

It called on the appropriate security agencies to investigate such cases and prosecute offenders to the full extent of the law.

Reiterating its position, the BoG reminded the public that a reused currency box, regardless of its origin, does not signify any ongoing connection with or endorsement by the Bank.
