Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana are beginning an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday in a move that could affect operations across public offices in the country.

The union says the action is in response to continued delays in the implementation of agreed conditions of service.

The strike is expected to affect work in ministries, departments and agencies, as well as local government offices, where CLOGSAG members form a significant part of the administrative workforce.

Union leaders say the decision was taken after repeated efforts to get the government to address their concerns failed to produce results.

The walkout is going ahead despite an order from the National Labour Commission directing the association to call off the action and return to the negotiating table.

CLOGSAG has, however, told its members across the country to ignore that directive and stay away from work, arguing that the government has still not responded adequately to the issues raised.

Speaking before the strike began, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Edmund Aquaye, said there had been no formal engagement from the employer since the union announced its intention to strike last week.
