Constitution review draft report expected by October – CRC
The report comes after extensive consultations with key national stakeholders, including the Council of State and the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) says it is on schedule to submit its draft report on the review of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution to President John Dramani Mahama by the end of September or early October.
“We are working hard to finalise the draft report, and we expect to present it to the President by the end of September or early October,” the CRC’s Secretary, Dr. Rainer Akumperigya, confirmed in an interview with Daily Graphic.
The report comes after extensive consultations with key national stakeholders, including the Council of State and the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
Throughout the process, several major constitutional issues were raised for review. These included limiting presidential terms, reducing the powers of the Presidency, electing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and revising the requirement that ministers be appointed from Parliament.
Dr. Akumperigya emphasised that the submission of the draft report would not mark the end of the committee’s responsibilities, as it would remain involved by offering clarifications to Parliament and assisting with the implementation process.
