Court remands mason over break-in at Mpasatia shop
The accused, Solomon Wereko, is facing three charges: unlawful entry, causing damage and stealing.
A 30-year-old mason has been sent to prison custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court after being accused of breaking into a shop in Mpasatia and taking goods worth more than GH¢1,000.
The accused, Solomon Wereko, is facing three charges: unlawful entry, causing damage and stealing. He denied all three when he appeared before the court and is due back on 22 April 2026.
The prosecution says the incident happened in the early hours of 4 April.
According to Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, the complainant, trader Asor Gyamfi, had sent her two sons on an errand at dawn when they noticed something unusual at her shop. The boys allegedly found that lights which had been switched off the previous night were now on.
When they moved closer, the prosecution said, they saw Wereko inside the shop and immediately raised an alarm. Their mother and other residents then rushed to the scene.
Police from Mpasatia were called in and, after arriving at the scene, arrested the suspect and took him into custody for questioning.
Investigators later revisited the location with him. The prosecution told the court that during that visit, Wereko showed officers how he had climbed onto a lotto kiosk beside the shop, damaged part of the structure, entered through the front roof and broke the padlock to gain access.
Police say several items were taken from the shop, including bottles of liquid soap, hand gloves, electrical cables and socks, with the total value estimated at GH¢1,160.
In his caution statement, the prosecution said, Wereko admitted entering the shop unlawfully but denied damaging the property or stealing anything.
After further investigations, he was formally charged and brought before the court presided over by Robert Addo.
