The Ashaiman District Court has convicted Kofi Boakye Frimpong, a 54-year-old former police officer, for impersonating a serving officer after he was caught dressed in full police regalia and posing as an active Chief Inspector.

Presiding Judge Derick Pardden Eshun found Frimpong guilty based on his own plea after he admitted to the charge of falsely pretending to be a public officer. The court, however, deferred sentencing and remanded him into custody until October 14, 2025, pending final determination.

According to Inspector Henry Nartey Tetteh, who prosecuted the case, the incident occurred on September 17, 2025, when police officers stationed at Zenu Star Fuel Station intercepted Frimpong. He was reportedly dressed in a black tactical uniform with a Chief Inspector’s rank insignia.

The officers, suspecting his credentials, questioned him briefly. During the exchange, Frimpong attempted to flee by jumping onto a motorbike and ordering the rider to speed away. He was, however, chased down and apprehended.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Frimpong was a dismissed Chief Inspector who had relocated to Ashaiman but continued to wear his police uniform and impersonate an officer.

He pleaded for leniency during proceedings, but the prosecution urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, emphasizing the gravity of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Frimpong remains in police custody and is expected to reappear before the court on October 14, 2025, for sentencing.
