A 60-year-old driver has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court over allegations that he misappropriated GH¢275,000 belonging to his family.

Kwame Mensah pleaded not guilty to a charge of dishonest appropriation.

He is expected to reappear before the court on May 27, 2026.

The court, presided over by Robert Addo, heard that the complainant, Kofi Nyame, is the head of the Aduana family at Mpatuam in the Amansie West District.

Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, prosecuting, said the family sold part of its farmland in November 2025 for GH¢275,000.

The proceeds were allegedly given to Mensah for safekeeping.

According to the prosecution, the family later requested the money in December 2025 to renovate its family house.

Mensah allegedly told the family that he had invested the funds in treasury bills and would return the money by February 2026.

But the court heard that by April 2026, he had not refunded the money.

He also allegedly failed to produce any document showing that the money had been invested.

The family reported the matter to the Nkawie Police on May 6, 2026, leading to Mensah’s arrest.

In his caution statement, Mensah admitted receiving the money.

He, however, claimed that three unidentified young men robbed him while he was transporting the cash from Asuofua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District to Mpatuam.

Police later charged him after investigations.

He has been remanded until May 27.
