The District Court in Asante Akropong has remanded a 45-year-old driver, Albert Cobbina, into police custody on suspicion of murdering his wife, Grace Asantewaa.

Presided over by Mr Emmanuel Wiafe Adu, the court did not take Cobbina’s plea. He is scheduled to reappear on September 15, 2025.

According to Chief Inspector David Kwabi, the couple lived together at Fankyenebra, near Santasi in Kumasi.

On August 24, 2025, Cobbina allegedly reported to the Suntreso Police that his wife had been discovered in a pool of blood, with a kitchen knife lying next to her. He claimed he had rushed her to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

However, investigators say Cobbina’s statements were inconsistent, prompting suspicion of foul play.

Following preliminary investigations, police charged Cobbina in connection with his wife’s death. The prosecution asked for more time to continue investigations, after which the court ordered that he be kept in police custody until the next hearing.
