A 34-year-old farmer, Daniel Dziwornu, has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Hohoe Circuit Court for repeatedly engaging in sexual acts with his 21-year-old biological sister for four years.

Dziwornu, who pleaded guilty, attempted to explain his actions by blaming alcohol consumption. However, the court, presided over by Mr. Lambert Y. Keriba, dismissed the explanation as inadequate and formally entered a guilty plea against him.

Chief Inspector Charles Aziati, who prosecuted the case, described the convict's actions as "barbaric, unacceptable and deviant," and urged the court to impose a harsh sentence to serve as a deterrent.

According to the facts presented, the victim lived in the same town as the complainant, a social worker and neighbor. Dziwornu, her older brother and caregiver after the loss of their mother during her childhood, lived with the victim in his home.

Between 2020 and 2024, Dziwornu subjected the young woman to repeated sexual abuse, which led to at least three pregnancies—each of which he reportedly forced her to terminate. In March 2025, the victim fled to live with her boyfriend, taking along her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, believed to be fathered by Dziwornu.

The abuse came to light when Dziwornu tracked the victim to her boyfriend's residence and forcibly took the child away. Traumatized, the victim confided in the complainant, who promptly assisted her in filing a police report.

Dziwornu was apprehended on May 17, 2025, while attempting to transport the child to Aflao. He was arrested and handed over to the Hohoe Police. During interrogation, he confessed to having had sexual relations with the victim.

The case has drawn sharp public condemnation, with many calling for stronger protective measures for vulnerable women and stricter penalties for incest and sexual abuse.
