Four teachers fined GH¢12,000 over BECE malpractice
The convicts, David Kwabena Mensah, Ruth Ampah, Millicent Marfo and Kennedy Anokye, were each fined GH¢3,000.
Four teachers have been fined a total of GH¢12,000 by the Twifo Praso Magistrate’s Court for examination malpractice in the Central Region.
The convicts, David Kwabena Mensah, Ruth Ampah, Millicent Marfo and Kennedy Anokye, were each fined GH¢3,000.
The court said each of them would serve a one-year prison term if they fail to pay the fine.
They all pleaded guilty to the offences.
Chief Inspector Joseph Kusah, who prosecuted the case, said the malpractice took place at the Twifo Praso Senior High School examination centre in the Twifo-Atti-Morkwa District.
According to the prosecution, Mensah, 38, used a mobile phone to take pictures of an examination paper and shared the images through WhatsApp.
The court found that his conduct breached Section 4(B) of the West African Examinations Council Act, 2006.
Ampah was convicted for helping candidates during the examination by dictating answers to them.
Her conduct was said to have violated Section 20(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, as well as Sections 6 and 9 of the WAEC Act, 2006.
Marfo and Anokye were also convicted after the court found that they conspired to unlawfully obtain examination materials.
Their offence was contrary to Section 23 of the Criminal Offences Act and Section 3 of the WAEC Act, 2006.
The prosecution said the four acted together in facilitating the malpractice at the examination centre.
