The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has initiated a formal investigation following reports of an alleged assault by seven of its personnel in Kumasi on Friday, March 28, 2025.

In a statement from the Military High Command, it was revealed that the group—comprising three officers and four enlisted soldiers—allegedly apprehended and physically assaulted three civilians they accused of stealing a mobile phone.

The altercation reportedly left the civilians with varying degrees of injuries.

In response, the Military Police, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has launched a joint inquiry to establish the facts surrounding the incident. All seven military personnel involved have been placed under closed arrest while investigations continue.

The High Command emphasized that any individuals found responsible will face appropriate legal action, reinforcing the institution’s dedication to discipline and accountability.

They further appealed to the public, especially relatives and acquaintances of the affected civilians, to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
