GIMPA Council renews term of Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Budu as Law School Dean
A statement signed by the Secretary to the Institute, Dr. Victoria M. Kunbuor, confirmed that the renewal takes effect from September 1, 2025, and will run until August 31, 2028.
The Council of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has renewed the appointment of Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Budu as Dean of the GIMPA Faculty of Law for a second and final three-year term.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the Institute, Dr. Victoria M. Kunbuor, confirmed that the renewal takes effect from September 1, 2025, and will run until August 31, 2028.
Dr. Agyeman-Budu was first appointed Dean of the GIMPA Faculty of Law by the Governing Council on September 1, 2022, for an initial three-year term.
A lawyer by profession and a distinguished legal academic, Dr. Agyeman-Budu has been teaching various law courses at GIMPA’s Faculty of Law since January 2013. In September 2013, he founded The Justice Foundation, an apolitical, non-profit, non-religious human rights organization dedicated to expanding access to justice in Ghana. Through this initiative, he has represented numerous indigent criminal defendants in Ghanaian courts on a pro bono basis.
Dr. Agyeman-Budu holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Ghana, as well as a Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law. He further earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law & Justice and a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) from Fordham University School of Law in the United States.
Since 2015, he has served as a member and coordinator of the Judicial Service of Ghana’s Internship and Clerkship Committee, overseeing the placement of law students across various courts in Ghana.
Between 2019 and 2022, he served as Head of Law Centers at the GIMPA Faculty of Law, managing the African Centre of International Criminal Justice (ACICJ) and the African Centre on Law & Ethics (ACLE).
In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Dr. Agyeman-Budu teaches Constitutional Law, International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, and Intellectual Property Law at GIMPA. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the GIMPA Law Review. His research and professional interests span these subject areas, as well as Criminal Law, International Criminal Justice, Business and Human Rights, and Legal Ethics.
