The visit underscored the ongoing partnership between GRA and GPHA, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to improving cargo clearance processes, reducing delays, and lowering the overall cost of doing business at Ghana’s ports.
The Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. Anthony Sarpong, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the two state institutions in enhancing trade facilitation and revenue generation.
The visit underscored the ongoing partnership between GRA and GPHA, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to improving cargo clearance processes, reducing delays, and lowering the overall cost of doing business at Ghana’s ports.
Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono stressed the critical role of stakeholder collaboration in making Ghana’s ports more competitive and appealing within the West African subregion. He emphasized that effective cooperation is essential for achieving mutual goals and expanding the country’s revenue base.
“We must continue to work hand-in-hand, explore new opportunities, and streamline operations to make business at the ports more efficient and cost-effective,” he said.
On his part, Mr. Sarpong highlighted the strategic importance of synergy between GRA and GPHA. He noted that although the two agencies operate with different mandates, their collective efforts are vital for national development.
“Our collaboration is not just helpful—it is essential. By aligning our operations, we can amplify our impact on revenue mobilization and economic growth,” he remarked.
He also commended the GPHA for its longstanding cooperation with GRA and called for continued teamwork in support of the government’s broader economic agenda, particularly President John Dramani Mahama’s renewed vision for national progress.
As part of the visit, the GRA delegation also toured the facilities of Meridian Port Services (MPS) Limited at Tema Port. During an engagement with MPS management, discussions centered on enhancing government revenue through improved port operations. MPS CEO, Mr. Mohamed Samara, highlighted how recent investments in Terminal 3 are improving the speed and efficiency of cargo delivery.
The visit marks a renewed commitment by key national agencies to work together in streamlining trade logistics and supporting Ghana’s economic transformation.
