A hunting trip in the Gyamasi forest has ended in a murder case after a man was taken before a District Magistrate Court in Enchi over the death of a charcoal producer.

The accused, Robert Amoah, was remanded into police custody when he appeared before the court. His plea was not taken, and he is due back on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

Police say the incident happened on 31 March 2026 at about 2:00pm during a game expedition involving Amoah and four others.

According to the prosecution, Amoah allegedly fired at what he believed was an African civet during the outing. Instead, pellets from the gun are said to have struck a 35-year-old man who was working nearby producing charcoal on a cocoa farm.

The victim, who lived at Gyamasi near Agona Amenfi Camp, suffered a head injury.

Prosecutors told the court that Amoah and his companions rushed the injured man to the CHIPS compound at Agona Amenfi Camp, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case was then reported to the police, leading to Amoah’s arrest.

Police Inspector Stephen Offei Asante, who is handling the prosecution, said the suspect lives at Owusu Dapaa in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality.

The matter was heard before His Worship Lawrence Buanor-Buer.
