A hunter accused of killing a 35-year-old charcoal producer during a hunting expedition has been remanded by the Enchi District Magistrate Court.

Robert Amoah is facing a murder charge, but his plea was not taken.

The court, presided over by His Worship Lawrence Buanor-Bue, remanded him into police custody to reappear on May 21, 2026.

Police say the case is awaiting advice from the Attorney-General.

Presenting the facts, Police Inspector Stephen Offei Asante said the deceased lived at Gyamasi, while the accused lived at Owusu Dapaa, both in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality.

According to the prosecution, Amoah and four others went hunting in the Gyamasi Forest at about 2:00pm on March 31, 2026.

During the expedition, Amoah allegedly saw an African civet and fired his gun.

The pellets reportedly struck the charcoal producer, who was working in a nearby cocoa farm.

The court heard that the victim sustained a head injury.

Amoah and his colleagues rushed him to the Agona Amenfi Camp CHPS Compound for treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The prosecution said Amoah later reported the incident to the Agona Amenfi Police.

He was arrested and detained to assist investigations.

Inspector Offei Asante said a postmortem was conducted by Dr Addea of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The body was later released to the family for burial.
