I have deepened cooperation between the Bar, Bench-Yaw Acheampong Boafo
He noted that the Bench and the Bar are key stakeholders in the administration of Justice and thus will be a disaster for any of them to think that it can operate without the other.
The Outgoing President of the Ghana Bar Association, Yaw Acheampong Boafo has re-iterated the need for solid and healthy cooperation between the Bar and the Bench.
He noted that the Bench and the Bar are key stakeholders in the administration of Justice and thus will be a disaster for any of them to think that it can operate without the other.
Addressing Judges at the 43rd Conference of the Association of Judges and Magistrates, Ghana(AMJG), Mr Acheampong stated that he has deepened that cooperation during his tenure as President of the Bar.
“If there has ever been a National President of the GBA who has been an advocate on behalf of the bench, it is certainly Yaw Acheampong Boafo,” he noted.
Judges’ Security/CCTV Installation
Mr. Boafo bemoaned the neglect of the security of Judges by the government despite recent threats on Judges by local mobs in parts of the country.
Referring to a recently reported killing of a principal magistrate in Kenya in open court, Mr. Boafo charged the Judicial Service and government to do more to ensure Judges' security by recruiting more warrant officers, tooling them, and installing CCTV cameras in courts.
Judges' condition of service
As a member of the Judicial Council, Mr. Acheampong revealed that negotiations have been concluded for the conditions of service for the lower judicial bench and therefore called on the government to expedite the process so it takes place by January 2025.
