Kasoa court sentences three over WASSCE examination malpractice

The Kasoa-Ofaakor District Magistrate Court has handed custodial sentences totaling 20 months to three individuals found guilty of engaging in malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Those convicted include Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS, and two university students, Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James. They were arrested in Kasoa after being caught in separate incidents of examination fraud.

Armah, who was serving as an invigilator, was found with leaked answers to the Social Studies Paper 1 on his mobile phone and was dictating them to candidates. The court imposed a fine of 80 penalty units on him in addition to an eight-month custodial sentence.

Nkansah, a first-year student at Accra Technical University, was convicted of impersonating Quayson Francis Atta, a candidate from Ghana College SHS. He was fined 80 penalty units and sentenced to six months in prison.

James, a first-year student at the University of Ghana, was also jailed for six months and fined the same amount after he impersonated his twin brother, Amedeka Justice, during the same paper.

During an inspection at one of the examination centres, Chief Executive of the Awutu Senya East Municipality, Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, pointed out lapses in candidate seating arrangements and said new measures would be introduced to address such weaknesses. 

Municipal Education Director Frank-Etrue Hayford also condemned the malpractice and pledged to safeguard the integrity of the WASSCE.
