Ken Ofori-Atta released from ICE detention, lawyers say
Lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta say he has been released from ICE detention in the United States by judicial order and is now home with his family, while pursuing his case through due process.
Former Ghanaian finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been released from detention by United States immigration authorities, according to a statement issued by his lawyers.
In a press release dated 8 April 2026, the law firm Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners said Mr Ofori-Atta was released on 7 April “pursuant to judicial order” and is now home with his family.
The statement added that he remains “fully committed to use due process in defense of his rights as guaranteed under the constitution and laws of the United States”.
His legal team also expressed gratitude to those who had offered prayers and support during the period of detention.
The release was confirmed in a signed statement by Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo, acting as solicitor for Mr Ofori-Atta.
