The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ordered four tertiary education unions and their employers to appear before it as the dispute over the ongoing strike at public universities drags on.

The summons was issued under Section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) and covers:

SSA–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG)

TEWU–TUC

FUSSAG

TUAAG

The Commission said the unions and their employers, or authorised representatives, must attend a hearing on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, at 2:00 p.m. It added that notices have been served.

The NLC’s move follows a High Court injunction on Friday, 13 February 2026, which ordered the workers to end the strike immediately and restrained them from continuing what the court described as an illegal action.

The industrial action started after SSA-UoG, FUSSAG and TEWU-TUC declared an indefinite strike on Tuesday, 3 February, accusing the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission of changing agreed conditions of service without proper consultation.

The unions say the strike is driven by the unpaid Tier Two pension arrears and other outstanding obligations, and the replacement of overtime allowances with a “call-in allowance,” which they say breaches a 2021 agreement and weakens staff benefits.

The strike has disrupted operations across a number of public universities.
