Lawyers seek variation of bail conditions for accused in Accra Sky Train case
Asamoah and Ekumfi face multiple charges, including willfully causing financial loss to the state and intentionally mismanaging public funds in connection with the $2 million Accra Sky Train project, which ultimately failed to materialize.
The legal representatives of Solomon Asamoah, the former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), and Professor Christopher Ameyaw Ekumfi, the former Board Chair, have requested a modification of the bail conditions set for their clients.
Asamoah and Ekumfi face multiple charges, including willfully causing financial loss to the state and intentionally mismanaging public funds in connection with the $2 million Accra Sky Train project, which ultimately failed to materialize. Both accused persons have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Currently, Asamoah is on a GHC 15 million bail, while Ekumfi's bail is set at GHC 10 million, each with two sureties to be justified. Additionally, Asamoah is required to report to the Police investigators three times a week, while Ekumfi must report once a week.
During a court session on Tuesday, June 10, the defense attorneys requested more time to review the disclosures and witness statements provided by the Attorney-General. Furthermore, they made an oral request asking the court to vary the frequency of the reporting conditions, aiming for a more manageable schedule for their clients.
The court will consider these requests as it continues to oversee the proceedings in the case.
