Man held over viral video threatening churches in Ghana
Police said the video was picked up by the Police Intelligence Directorate in Accra on 5 April 2026. In the footage, a masked figure appeared dressed like a bandit alongside the message: “We are starting from Ghana churches.”
A 22-year-old man has been arrested after police linked him to a social media video that allegedly threatened attacks on churches and sparked alarm among members of the Christian community.
Police said the video was picked up by the Police Intelligence Directorate in Accra on 5 April 2026. In the footage, a masked figure appeared dressed like a bandit alongside the message: “We are starting from Ghana churches.”
Investigators identified the suspect as Evans Puplampu, a resident of Ashaiman Community 22. He was arrested two days later, on 7 April, after what police described as sustained surveillance and intelligence work.
According to the police, the video caused fear and anxiety because of the apparent threat it carried.
During questioning, Puplampu is said to have admitted that he was the person in the recording. Police say he told investigators he posted the clip under the TikTok name “Eyes Man” and claimed he had imitated a popular online pose for amusement, without intending real harm.
Officers also recovered a Samsung Galaxy A15, which they say was used to film and upload the video.
The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue. Police have meanwhile warned the public against creating or sharing content capable of provoking fear, panic or violence.
