A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labour after pleading guilty to defiling a 12-year-old girl at Gbi-Akplamafu.
Felix Agbodzi was convicted by the Hohoe Circuit Court after police said investigations showed he lured the girl to his residence and sexually abused her.
He was arrested on 13 April 2026 and brought before the court the following day, where he faced a defilement charge under Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960.
Presiding judge Lambert Yiringabaque Kariba handed down the sentence after Agbodzi admitted the offence.
The Volta North Regional Police Command said the speed of the prosecution reflected its resolve to act decisively in cases involving sexual violence against children.
In a statement signed by Inspector Felix Kwao, the command urged the public to report defilement and similar offences promptly, warning that perpetrators would face the full force of the law.
