The suspects were brought before the Tamale Circuit Court on Monday, 9 March 2026, to answer charges linked to narcotic and restricted drugs.
A court in Tamale has remanded 20 of 21 suspects arrested in a drug-related operation by the Northern Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit, while one of the accused has already been jailed.
The suspects were brought before the Tamale Circuit Court on Monday, 9 March 2026, to answer charges linked to narcotic and restricted drugs.
According to police, the charges include unlawful use of narcotic drugs, possession of narcotic drugs and the prohibited sale of restricted drugs.
Of the 21 accused persons, five admitted the offences.
One of them, identified as Mahama Iddris, was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour.
The court, however, held back sentencing for the other four who also pleaded guilty and remanded them in custody.
The remaining 16 denied the charges and were ordered into prison custody pending further proceedings.
Police said the matter has been adjourned to 24 March 2026.
The arrests were made by the Special Operations Team of the Northern Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit. A police statement signed by the Regional Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, confirmed the court proceedings and the outcomes so far.
