The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it is working with United States authorities on legal steps involving the former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, in the ongoing SML case.

In court, prosecutors said the US Department of Justice had sought guidance on how best to proceed with Ernest Darko Akore, a dual Ghanaian-American citizen and former aide to ex-Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta.

In the same case, US officials have confirmed they have received documents relating to Mr Ofori-Atta, including a summons and charge sheet.

Two separate legal processes are said to be underway in the United States involving the former minister, covering immigration issues and extradition.

Back in Ghana, proceedings have continued with prosecutors amending charges against one of the accused, Kwadwo Damoah, to reflect his official designation as Hon. Col. (Rtd).

The case, which involves eight accused persons, has been adjourned to 26 March 2026, when further disclosures and procedural issues are expected to be addressed.

Legal observers say the involvement of US authorities and dual nationality complicates the process, requiring coordination between different legal systems.

The OSP told the court it remains committed to pursuing the case within the law while working with international partners to ensure due process is followed.
