Police arrest suspected Abokobi land guard
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Saviour Kojo Ekpe, was picked up following what police described as an intelligence-led operation carried out on 5 March 2026.
Police in Accra say they have arrested a man accused of terrorising residents in Abokobi and recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from his room.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Saviour Kojo Ekpe, was picked up following what police described as an intelligence-led operation carried out on 5 March 2026.
According to a police brief, officers searched his room and found four pump-action guns, 101 rounds of AA and BB live ammunition, a jack knife, a Glock pistol marked Austria, and 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Investigators say Ekpe is suspected of operating as a land guard in Abokobi and nearby areas. Police further allege that he rented out the weapons to other criminals for use in unlawful activities.
During questioning, the brief said, he admitted the weapons belonged to him. However, police said he failed to provide any convincing explanation for possessing them. He reportedly claimed that one was used for hunting, another for home protection, and another for his personal safety.
Police said those explanations strengthened their suspicion that the weapons were being kept for criminal use.
A second suspect, Emmanuel Abbey, was also arrested. He is accused of threatening the life of a complainant.
Both men remain in custody, while the weapons and ammunition have been kept as evidence.
Police say intelligence gathered before the arrests suggested that Ekpe had been active as a land guard in the area and had access to weapons allegedly hired out to criminals. A team was then deployed, leading to the arrest of both suspects.
