Police arrest two suspects over Omanjor Homowo violence
According to a statement signed by Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the suspects are: Christian Saka Ahianyevi, 35, a private security officer, arrested on August 30 and Newton Alotey, 26, a dispatch rider, arrested on August 31.
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the violence that erupted at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30, which left three people dead and several others injured.
According to a statement signed by Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the suspects are: Christian Saka Ahianyevi, 35, a private security officer, arrested on August 30 and Newton Alotey, 26, a dispatch rider, arrested on August 31.
Police disclosed that 18 spent BB cartridges were retrieved from Newton Alotey, while Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits. All items have since been secured as evidence.
The statement confirmed that both suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Meanwhile, a strong police presence has been maintained in the affected communities to ensure calm.
The Command urged residents and factions involved to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
