Police launch investigation into fatal armed attack, murder of immigration officer at Gbintri checkpoint

The North East Regional Police Command has begun investigations into an armed attack on two officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) stationed at the Gbintri Inland checkpoint, which resulted in the death of one officer.

According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabik Anmain, the Regional Public Affairs Officer, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the personnel at their post.

Both officers sustained gunshot wounds; however, one succumbed to his injuries while the other was transported to a nearby health facility for emergency medical care.

The police report indicated that the attackers fled the scene with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. A service rifle that had been in use during the attack was later recovered by responding officers.

The Command has since launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, describing the incident as a “heinous crime” and assuring the public of its commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.

“We appeal to the public to provide any information that could assist the investigation and aid in apprehending the culprits,” the statement added.
