Two men have been arrested in the Bono East Region after police intercepted a vehicle carrying what investigators believe is a large consignment of cannabis.

The suspects, Sadic Wemah, 42, and Senbeti Karim, 39, were picked up on Saturday, 26 April 2026, during a patrol operation near Kintampo.

According to the Bono East Regional Police Command, officers from the New Longoro Police Station stopped an unregistered white Toyota Highlander on the New Longoro–Weila stretch of the Kintampo–New Longoro road at about 12:40pm.

A search of the vehicle, police said, led to the discovery of two sacks containing 166 parcels of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis.

The two men were arrested on the spot and later transferred to the Kintampo Divisional CID for interrogation.

Police say that during questioning, both suspects admitted the substance was cannabis and claimed ownership of it.

Investigators further said the men told police the consignment had been bought from a supplier identified only as “Edem”, also known as “Confirm”, who they claim moves cannabis from the Volta Region through Tamale for distribution.

According to the police account, the suspects said they picked up the drugs at a filling station near Kintampo’s new market and were planning to transport them to Banda Nkwanta in the Bono Region for sale.

The police estimate the street value of the suspected cannabis at about GH¢107,000.

Both the drugs and the unregistered vehicle have been retained as exhibits, while the suspects remain in custody to assist with investigations.

The Bono East Regional Police Command says the arrests form part of its continuing effort to disrupt drug trafficking and related criminal activity in the region.
