A former Chief Justice and member of the current Council of State, Madam Sophia Akuffo, is not enthused about the government’s handling of the Chief Justice Torkornoo issue, which culminated in her removal.

According to her, the allegations leveled against Justice Torkornoo were not so grave as to merit such a severe outcome as her removal, thereby describing it as a "rigmarole" that set a dangerous precedent for Ghana’s judiciary.

Her comments follow the recent removal of Chief Justice Torkornoo owing to the recommendation of the Justice Pwamang 5-member Committee that proved several petitions, including the one by Daniel Ofori against the former Chief Justice.

In an interview on TV3, Justice Akuffo was dismayed at the manner in which the matter was handled, intimating that the former Chief Justice was not treated fairly and that the issue was handled as a treason trial, even though it was not meant to be so.

Madam Sophia Akuffo is one of the several witnesses who appeared before the Article 146 Committee to testify in support of the removed Chief Justice.
