The Judicial Service of Ghana has formally announced the official launch of activities marking the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Ghana, positioning the milestone as a defining moment in the country’s legal and institutional evolution.

The commemorative launch, scheduled for Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 10:00 a.m., will take place at the CEDI Conference Centre at the University of Ghana, Legon. The event is being held under the theme: “The Supreme Court of Ghana @150: Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present and Defining the Future.”

According to an official invitation issued by the Judicial Secretary, Musah Ahmed, the anniversary represents a strategic opportunity to reflect on a century and a half of judicial service, institutional continuity, and the pursuit of excellence within Ghana’s justice delivery system.

The event, convened on the instructions of the Chief Justice, is expected to attract key stakeholders across the legal, academic, and governance ecosystems. It will also serve as the formal kickoff for a broader series of commemorative activities slated to run throughout July 2026.

Positioned within a broader national narrative, the sesquicentennial celebration underscores the enduring role of the Supreme Court as a cornerstone of constitutional governance and rule of law in Ghana.

Organisers emphasise that the launch is not merely ceremonial but a platform to reinforce public confidence in the judiciary, while charting a forward-looking agenda for legal innovation and institutional resilience.

The Judicial Service has extended a formal invitation to members of the legal fraternity and the general public, noting that participation in the event will contribute meaningfully to the success of what it describes as a historic national milestone.

Further details on the anniversary programme are expected to be released in the lead-up to the July celebrations.
