A man has been arrested over the shooting at the Adjen Kotoku Onion Market, where traders were injured after gunmen reportedly opened fire earlier this week.

Police say the suspect, 40-year-old Inusah Seidu, was tracked down and arrested on 8 April at a hideout in Adjen Kotoku. He is now in custody and assisting investigators.

The arrest followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, which led to the deployment of a specialised intelligence team to investigate the incident and stabilise the area.

Authorities believe Seidu may have played a significant role in the attack, which took place on Monday, 6 April.

According to reports, the violence broke out when armed men believed to be linked to a rival group entered the market and started shooting. Several traders were said to have been wounded, and panic quickly spread through the area.

The market has since been closed as security agencies continue their operations and investigations.

The shooting comes against the backdrop of wider tensions in the onion trade. There have also been reports that onion trucks heading to Ghana have been blocked in Nigeria, apparently in reaction to earlier disagreements involving some Ghanaian traders.
