The Tarkwa District Court One has handed a two-month prison sentence with hard labor to Gifty Awuah, an unemployed woman, for stealing GH¢1,200 in cash and a mobile phone worth GH¢1,100.
Awuah admitted to the offense and was convicted on her own plea.
Presenting the case, Police Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh told the court, presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, that the complainant, Elizabeth Badu, was also unemployed and resided in Wassa Agona, while Awuah lived in Dompim Pepesa, both within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
On November 9, 2024, around 2:00 PM, Awuah visited Badu’s residence, claiming she wanted to see Nana Nkansah, the complainant’s husband. After being informed that Nkansah was not at home, Awuah pretended to leave but quickly returned, entered Badu’s room, and stole the money and mobile phone before making her escape.
According to Sergeant Assan-Donkoh, Awuah was apprehended on November 11, 2024, and taken to the police station. During interrogation, she admitted to committing the crime in her caution statement.
