A teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School has been granted bail after reappearing before the Nyinahin District Court over the alleged assault of a final-year student.

Eric Apaflo Buernortey, 39, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault.

The court, presided over by relieving judge Mr Lord Delvin Essandoh, admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢80,000 with three sureties.

The sureties are required to reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Buernortey was also ordered to report to the case investigator every two weeks on Mondays.

The court cautioned the public against spreading misinformation about the case.

“The public is hereby cautioned against any misinformation in respect of the matter as any misinformation would not be tolerated,” the court said.

This is the second time the teacher has been arraigned over the incident.

He was first brought before court after the matter came up on June 8, 2026.

That earlier case was withdrawn by the police, leading to his discharge.

Chief Inspector Eric Owusu, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Patricia Chibu, is an 18-year-old final-year student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School.

The accused is also a tutor at the school and caretaker of Adusei Hostel, which is located near the school.

According to the prosecution, the incident happened around 12 noon on June 8, 2026.

The court heard that Buernortey had cautioned the complainant and some male students at the hostel over alleged misconduct.

During the confrontation, the complainant allegedly insulted and mocked the teacher.

The prosecution said this angered Buernortey, who allegedly attacked and assaulted her.

The complainant is said to have called some town residents to the scene.

According to the prosecution, the group attempted to lynch the teacher, but a police patrol team intervened in time.

Buernortey was rescued and taken to the police station together with the complainant.

The complainant was issued with a police medical form to seek treatment.

She later returned the form endorsed by a medical officer.

The prosecution said the accused was detained, investigations were conducted and a caution statement was obtained from him.

The case is expected to continue before the court.
