A road traffic case from November last year has resurfaced at the Toase District Court, where a 23-year-old motorcyclist has been ordered into prison custody over the death of a young girl.

The accused, Kwame Ebenezer, is alleged to have knocked down four-year-old Richlove Adugyamfi at Manso-Tetrem, causing injuries from which she later died.

He is now facing three offences arising from the incident: causing harm through negligence, riding without a licence and using the road without insurance cover.

When he was brought before the court, his plea was not taken. The matter was instead adjourned to 21 April 2026 to allow police to obtain a testing officer’s report.

According to the prosecution, the child was crossing the road at about 5:00pm on 8 November 2025 when she was hit by an unregistered Haogin motorcycle allegedly being ridden by the accused.

She was first taken to the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital and later referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi because of the severity of her injuries. She died there the following day.

Police told the court that Ebenezer was first arrested after the crash and granted enquiry bail, but later disappeared. Investigators say he went into hiding and could not be traced for several months.

He was eventually rearrested on 6 April 2026 and, after further enquiries, was formally charged and sent before the court.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Kwaku Frimpong before the court presided over by Robert Addo.
