Two friends, Yaw Paul, 28, a driver’s mate, and Stephen Boakye, 23, a mechanic apprentice, have been sentenced to three years in prison each by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court for stealing five sliding window frames valued at GH¢2,500.00 in Abuakwa-Abakomadi.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and were convicted accordingly.

Police Chief Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisah, the prosecutor, explained that the two accused were close friends living in Abuakwa-Maakro, while the complainant, George Osei, an aluminum fabricator, resided in Abakomadi.

On April 13, a police officer stationed at the IPT snap checkpoint along the Abuakwa-Kumasi stretch stopped a motorbike carrying the accused. The officer noticed five sliding window frames in the vehicle and questioned the rider, Isaac Amankwah, who revealed that the accused had hired him to transport them to Abrepo Junction in Kumasi.

Upon questioning, the accused could not provide a reasonable explanation for the frames, leading to their arrest. They were taken to the Tanoso police station, where they later confessed to stealing the window frames from Abakomadi.

The following day, the complainant, George Osei, identified the stolen items at the crime scene. After further investigations and a formal admission by the accused in their caution statement, they were charged and brought before the court, where they received their sentences.
