Two young men who conspired to steal defective car parts valued at GH¢17,500 at Bogoso Junction have each been sentenced to three months of hard labor by the Tarkwa District Court One.

The convicts, Robert Cudjoe, 19, a commercial tricycle rider known as “Nose Mask”, and Isaac Aidoo, 18, a small-scale miner known as “Yaw Talk”, pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to Police Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh, who led the prosecution, the complainant, Christopher Dorglo, an auto mechanic based at Bogoso Junction but residing in Booboobo near Tarkwa, stored various faulty car parts at his workshop for repairs.

On the night of October 25, 2024, between 12:00 am and 1:00 am, Cudjoe and Aidoo, along with an accomplice named Emma (who is currently on the run), executed their plan to steal vehicle parts from Dorglo’s workshop. Among the stolen items were gearboxes from Nissan Sentra, Ford Escape, and Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles, as well as a defective car battery, an air conditioning tank, and four car water tanks from a nearby workshop.

They hid the stolen items behind a storey building near the Bogoso Junction-Samahu road.

The following morning, Aidoo hired a commercial tricycle rider, Paul Balungo, to transport the stolen goods to Samahu. However, before they could leave, Eric Wilson, a witness, spotted them at the back of the building. Suspicious, he confronted them about the origin of the items and went to seek help.

Sensing danger, Aidoo and Emma fled the scene, leaving Cudjoe and the tricycle rider, Balungo, behind. While Balungo was later cleared of any involvement, Cudjoe was captured and handed over to the police.

When Dorglo discovered the theft at his workshop later that morning, he identified the stolen gearboxes as his. Aidoo was subsequently arrested and, during police interrogation, admitted to the crime, implicating Cudjoe and the fugitive Emma.

Following investigations, Cudjoe and Aidoo were charged and sentenced to three months of hard labor each. Authorities are still working to apprehend Emma, the third suspect, to ensure he faces justice.
