A Circuit Court in Bekwai has handed lengthy prison terms to two men who admitted taking part in a violent robbery in Asonkore, near Obuasi.
Rashid Adams was sentenced to 30 years in prison, while Godfred Ampadu received 25 years. Both men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, and the court convicted them on their own pleas.
Their sentences are to run concurrently.
A third accused person, Dominic Naazie, denied allegations that he assisted in the crime. He has been remanded into custody and is due back in court on 24 April 2026.
The case stems from a robbery on 3 April 2026 in which, according to police, a gold dealer was attacked, knocked down with a tricycle and stripped of cash and gold.
Investigators say their follow-up work led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen gold. Police also said they retrieved a vehicle believed to have been bought with money from the robbery.
In a statement, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command said the convictions reflect its determination to tackle violent crime and ensure offenders are made to answer before the law.
