Two Obuasi SHTS teachers remanded over alleged role in headmaster attack

Two teachers of Obuasi Senior High Technical School have been remanded into police custody over allegations that they encouraged students to attack the school’s headmaster.
Kwasi Brefo, 41, and Joseph Appiah Arthur, 34, made their first appearance before the Obuasi Circuit Court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
They have been charged with two counts of abetment under the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960.
The court ordered that they remain in police custody for one week.
They are expected to reappear on August 17, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the two teachers allegedly aided and abetted students to damage school property during the unrest on campus.
They are also accused of instigating the students to attack the headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria, on August 4.
The incident formed part of the disturbances that recently hit the school and led to police investigations.
Obuasi District Commander, Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, had earlier said the two accused persons were among three teachers arrested after a complaint was lodged by the headmaster.
The headmaster sustained machete injuries during the incident.
He was treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and has since been discharged.
Meanwhile, police are awaiting the results of an autopsy and DNA examination on a male foetus found near one of the school’s dormitories.
Superintendent Iddrisu said the foetus, which was discovered on August 5, is being kept at the morgue of the Obuasi Government Hospital.
The outcome of the forensic examinations is expected to assist investigators as they continue probing the events that led to the disturbances at the school.
