An Accra Circuit Court has ordered two men into custody over the robbery of a jewellery shop at Westland near Haatso, where gold items worth GH¢2 million are said to have been stolen.

The accused, Musa Abdul Aziz Mamoud, also known as Justin Martin, and Donatus Kwame Donkor, have both denied the allegations.

Mamoud, described in court as a 34-year-old stock trader, is facing charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, causing unlawful damage and money laundering. Donkor, a 37-year-old carpenter, is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

The court has directed the prosecution to file its witness statements and other disclosures before the next hearing, which has been fixed for 13 April 2026.

According to the prosecution, the robbery happened on 26 April 2025 at Berma Jewellery Shop. Police say the two men acted together and used pepper spray to overpower both a security guard and a shop attendant before making away with the valuables.

The prosecution’s case is that Donkor engaged the security guard at the entrance while Mamoud, dressed in a pullover, trousers, gloves and a mask, arrived at the shop on a motorbike and entered the premises.

Police allege that Mamoud then attacked the security guard and later a sales attendant using pepper spray, while Donkor remained nearby as a lookout.

The stolen items are said to have included bracelets, earrings, pendants and chains, all packed into a bag before the suspects fled.

The matter was later referred to the Criminal Investigations Department after the complainant, a trader based at Dome, petitioned the Director-General.

Police say Mamoud was arrested on 24 March 2026 following intelligence-led work. During a search of his home, officers reportedly found items believed to be connected to the robbery, including masks, a hammer, pepper spray, a toy gun, a crash helmet, jewellery, a gold detector and a weighing scale.

Donkor was arrested two days later at his home in Osu. Investigators say the motorbike believed to have been used in the robbery was recovered there.

The prosecution also told the court that Mamoud is suspected to have sold part of the stolen jewellery and used some of the proceeds to acquire a Toyota FJ Cruiser before his arrest.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Haligah is leading the prosecution, while investigations continue.
