An excavator operator and his apprentice have been remanded by the Toase District Court over the alleged theft of a control board from a machine valued at hundreds of thousands of cedis.

The two accused, Solomon Arthur and Samuel Awotwe, were brought before the court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, but their pleas were not taken. They are due back in court on 14 April 2026.

The prosecution says the complaint was made by Rockson Teyeh, a mechanic based at Atwima Twedie, while the two accused are said to live at Anwia-Nkwanta near Obuasi.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Frank Acheampong, the complainant had in May 2025 placed his excavator in the care of the accused persons. The machine was later hired out by a witness earlier this year.

The case, as presented in court, is that Arthur contacted the complainant on 20 March 2026 to report a fault with the excavator. The owner then arranged for a mechanic to inspect it.

Prosecutors say Arthur did not open the machine himself for the repair work, but instead instructed his apprentice to do so.

The following day, when the mechanic and the apprentice went to the site, the control board was discovered missing. The component, the court heard, is valued at GH¢300,000.

After examining the excavator and finding no visible signs of damage or forced entry, the mechanic reportedly suspected that the part may have been removed by someone with access to the key. Police say attention then turned to the apprentice, and the complainant was informed.
