The High Court in Accra has withdrawn the bench warrant it issued for the arrest of the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police and the Director General of the Legal and Prosecution Unit.

Appearing before the court on Wednesday, Head of the Legal and Prosecution at the Police Service, Superintendent Sylvester Asare apologize to the Court for their inability to make an appearance at previous sittings.

The bench warrant was initially issued on April 15 due to their failure to appear in court regarding a case filed by Sureword Global Outreach. The religious organisation filed the application stating that the respondents had refused to release a vehicle despite many court orders.

At Wednesday's sitting, Superintendent Sylvester Asare also told the court that the vehicle in question had been released to the Applicant on Tuesday, as a measure to purge themselves of the contempt.

Counsel for the applicant confirmed the vehicle's release and commended the court's decisive action.

Therefore, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo while rescinding the bench warrant said an institution like the police should uphold the rule of law at all times.

“Therefore if they fail to uphold the rule of law by disrespecting the orders of the court the court would be pushed to call them to order,” she said.
