Fleet manager granted GH¢ 2m bail for allegedly stealing 44 vehicles belonging to car rental company

A fleet manager of Huawei Technologies Ghana Limited has been granted a GH¢ 2 million bail for allegedly stealing 44 vehicles belonging to Leasafric Ghana PLC, a car rental company in Kasoa.

The accused Frank Ashirifi Junior is said to have sold the 44 vehicles that his company rented from Leasafric Ghana PLC to buyers in Techiman, Wa, Cape Coast, and Accra.

He pleaded not guilty to 44 counts of stealing when he appeared before the Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Patricia Amponsah on September 19, 2022. But prosecutors said he admitted to the offence in his caution statement, adding that he invested proceeds from the sale of the cars in Fixed Deposits at Access Bank and Zenith Bank.

According to the prosecutor, the police have been able to retrieve 25 vehicles, while the accused was made to refund GH¢ 80,000.00

“Investigations revealed that Leasafric Ghana PIC rented out about 44 vehicles made up of 21 Nissan Hardbody pickups, four Toyota Landcruiser Prado, nine Toyota Hilux pickups, two Mitsubishi Pajero, two Mitsubishi L200 pickups, three Hyundai Creta, one Hyundai Elantra, one Toyota Hiace, one Nissan Almera and one Nissan Patrol with their respective registration numbers valued at GH¢5,774, 519.58 to Huawei Technologies Ghana S.A. Limited between January 2021 and July 2022. 

“In the course of investigation, police retrieved vehicles to wit: four Toyota Landcruiser Prado one Mitsubishi Pajero, three Toyota Hilux pickups three Hyundai Creta ten Nissan Hardbody pickups one Toyota Hiace with registration number GT 7678-19, one Nissan Patrol, one Nissan Almera, and one Hyundai Elantra from respective buyers in Accra, Cape Coast, Techiman, Sunyani, Kumasi and Wa,” Inspector Isaac Babayi told the court. 

The case has been adjourned to October 17, 2022.
