The traditional leader, with the stool name, Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, therefore, noted that there is no impediment or restrictive measures in the way of persons yearning to become lawyers in this country and thus urged the public not to subscribe to contrived assertions.
Indeed when with the approval of the council, I encouraged some of my staff who needed to be motivated to enter the Ghana School of Law, to write the Entrance exams. I’m sad to say that only one out of seven passed.
If we have a way of skewing things in their favor, they would have been the first to benefit.
The above were remarks made by the Director of Legal Education, and of the Ghana School of Law, Mr. Yaw Oppong in his inaugural address delivered at his induction into office held on December 15, 2022, at the Ghana School of Law main campus.
The traditional leader, with the stool name, Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, therefore, noted that there is no impediment or restrictive measures in the way of persons yearning to become lawyers in this country and thus urged the public not to subscribe to contrived assertions.
“My Lord Chief Justice, if as it happened, you and other distinguished members together with the allied institutions together with the IEC and the Ghana School of law can cause some 44 students to be called to the Ghana Bar in one day, that is a living proof that no impediment or restrictive measures have been fashioned to frustrate some persons from becoming lawyers in this country
I urge members of the public not to subscribe to such contrived assertions. “
The ceremony, which is the first of its kind for a Director of Legal education and the school, was attended by a high-powered delegation led by the Chief Justice, members of the General Legal Council, the Judicial Secretary, Justices of the Superior Courts, lawyers, lecturers of the GSL, students, etc.
Additionally, Mr. Oppong indicated the need to position and equip the Ghana School of Law and the various law faculties in the country to be able to train competitive lawyers to be at the forefront of negotiations and deals in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement(AfCFTA).
Also, he outlined his new thoughts for the Ghana School of Law which included among others the revamping of the Chamber system at the school to replicate and assist the Legal Aid Scheme in providing legal services to persons in real need.
